David Lopez
David Lopez is a young entrepreneur from Brownsville, Texas. While his academic life has culminated after recently earning an MBA degree from The University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College, David’s true passion and life has revolved around music. Since the age of 4, Mr. Lopez was taught how to play the piano by his father, Mr. Abelardo Lopez, who himself is a very accomplished pianist and has been a piano instructor for decades. David Lopez has played in numerous musical events in many areas of Texas including Brownsville, Kingsville, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas. He has also played in many events in his natal country (Mexico).
My Story
When he was 15 years old Mr. Lopez received a full cover Scholarship to play and teach piano in a well recognized high school in Kingsville, Texas. On graduation, he began to give private piano lessons to interested students around the Brownsville area as well as to study music at the University of Texas at Brownsville. Meanwhile, he slowly began marketing himself through his initial few students and their parents, and soon developed a successful and dominant network, through references from his clients to other families.
While Mr. Lopez’s business of private piano lessons continued to grow, he was in the midst of completing his MBA. Throughout that process, he began to develop an idea to begin a musical academy in Brownsville, due to his firm belief that there were not enough musical resources and outlets for children in the Rio Grande Valley, and he saw this vast deficiency as an immediate threat to cultural livelihood, as well as a threat to the appreciation of classical music in this area. In addition, he felt that his education, particularly his MBA, was equipping him with the tools and knowledge he needed to successfully begin his dream business, and manage his business to success.
On January 18, 2010, Mr. Lopez’s dream finally came true. He founded Little Mozart’s Musical Academy in Brownsville, Texas. Even more remarkable is that Mr. Lopez has branched out his academy to include instruction in electric, acoustic, and bass guitar, Violin, Drums, Art, Cello and many more and has hired instructors for those instruments, since Mr. Lopez is the piano teacher, and most of his students are piano students. Nonetheless, Mr. Lopez has long-term plans of extending his academy throughout the Valley, with set goals of opening at least two more academies. For now, however, Mr. Lopez is strictly focused on his new academy, and rightly so. He is solely responsible for the multitude of tasks that go into managing his academy, from giving piano classes and generating students to preparing his business’ tax documents and preparing financial statements (balance sheets, income statements) for his academy.
